Citizens Use Their Leverage to Stop Development

Margy Waller wrote a great letter to the Enquirer detailing how OTR residents came together, found a common voice, and used “the system” to affect a proposed development.  The insight here is that for citizens’ voice to be heard, they need to find a leverage point they can exploit; in this case, it was the developer’s zoning-change request. Margy’s diverse OTR team knew that zoning changes are a favor to the developer (as are economic incentives) and should come with increased responsiveness to the surrounding community.  Nice work folks–we can all learn from your example.
